I then did a test run to see if my planning was doable or even possible. I started planning this run somewhere during the summer of 2008 and it took me about a half year to finish a planning that I thought was near optimal.
I like to think of it as trying to find one huge chain through the entire game with as least gaps as possible. There were a lot of unnecessarily long travel times between objectives and I found it a challenge to try and minimize these as much as I could. I went to study CannibalK9's route a bit closer and came to the conclusion that it could be done better. I was fascinated by the optimization possibilities this game allows because of the openness and freedom that GTA games are known for. I generally find speedruns of the average game quite boring to watch because of the linearity that usually defines the fastest possible route. I remember being blown away by his planning and strategies and how well everything fitted together. The first general ideas for this run came to me back when I saw CannibalK9's 100% run of GTA III.
